"Five Years On" - COVID-19 Memorial Video

Project Type

Videography

Date

March 2025

Location

Washington DC

March 11, 2025 marked the fifth year since COVID-19 was declared an international pandemic. This video project covered Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg's 2021 public art exhibition "In America," and served as a memorial video for the many families who lost loved ones to the virus.

In 2021, Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg placed white flags on the National Mall for every life lost to the virus in America. Every day, she planted more flags to keep up with the ever-rising death toll, reaching 701,000 by the end of the exhibit. The flags covered more than 20 acres in the largest public, participatory art exhibition on the National Mall since 1987. This exhibit was documented in the short-form documentary "not even for a moment do this stand still."

In 2025, I worked with Suzanne and her team to repurpose the b-roll content from the documentary for a memorial video, which was scheduled to be released on the five year anniversary of the pandemic. This task included extensive video and sound editing, in addition to multiple rounds of consultation and revisions based on client needs and requests.

I was proud to complete this work for Suzanne. We released this video on all her social platforms, gaining over 13.5K views, with a cumulative watch time of over 24 hours.
